First Steps on the Harmonica

• Basic technique
  The first session will introduce the harmonica, including its history and structure. Students will learn how to hold the harmonica properly using both hands and the correct breathing techniques.

• Chords
  Playing more notes at the same time produces chords. Students will learn to play C major and D minor chords rhythmically on the harmonica. They will start developing improvisational skills and training their ear.

• Single notes
  By learning to play the C major scale, students will practice playing single notes—the key to melodies on the harmonica. They will improvise with single notes and express themselves while following basic playing techniques.

• Repertoire
  Folk and blues are the most common music styles played on the diatonic harmonica. Students will get an introduction to these styles and learn how to play them.

• Performance
  Students will perform using selected backing tracks, an essential part of music education.

• Objective
  Students will acquire these four basic skills:
